DESCRIPTION:Keyboard player PETE CASE brings his 6 piece ‘supergroup’ to SoundCellar with an all star line-up featuring British jazz icon JASON REBELLO and local legends PAUL and JEREMY STACEY. \nTHIS GIG IS NOW SOLD OUT \nThis gig will take place at The Grasshopper\, 139 – 141 Bournemouth Rd\, Poole BH14 9HT.\n \nTicket link below \nPETE CASE is a homegrown Bournemouth musician who began playing piano at the age of four. He befriended and played with Jeremy and Paul Stacey when they were teenagers and they all linked up with bassist Pat Davey many years ago to work in a local band called Zen. In the mid-1980s Pete had a three-year spell working as a professional musician in London before completing his PhD and pursuing a career in the academic world (he’s an academic who works in the field of applied global health and has professorships at universities in Bristol\, North Queensland and Singapore). Paul\, Jeremy and Pete also met a teenage Jason Rebello and they became lifelong friends. Pete also met a teenage Tim Fulker when they both played in the Taverners’ Big Band\, again in the 1980s. So\, friendship runs long and deep in the ‘Pete Case & Friends’ band! Pete and his family recently moved back to the Bournemouth area and he’s enjoying reconnecting with the local jazz scene. \nFor this gig the group go back to their musical roots to perform an evening of classic jazz fusion as well as some contemporary compositions \nPete Case – keyboards\nJason Rebello – keyboards\nTim Fulker – saxophone\nPaul Stacey – guitar\nPat Davey – bass\nJeremy Stacey – drums \n  \nShare this event

DESCRIPTION:One of our unquestionable highlights of 2023 will be an appearance by the Wang / Luft / Fält Trio presenting their superb album Closeness\, along with some brand new material. Because of his passion for the band and a desire for them to be seen and heard on this side of the North Sea\, SoundCellar‘s John has stepped in and successfully arranged an 8-date tour of England & Wales for the band\, culminating in the final show here in Poole\, before they fly off to perform at a Festival in Sweden! \nThis gig will take place at The Grasshopper\,\n139 – 141 Bournemouth Rd\, Poole BH14 9HT. \nTicket link below \nBorn and raised in Norway\, bassist and singer Ellen Andrea Wang has been a powerful force in Jazz and beyond\, distinguishing herself as a truly inventive artist that blends styles in unprecedented ways. From collaborations with Sting\, Manu Katché and Marilyn Mazur\, to performances at major Jazz Festivals\, to her appearance with the vocal Jazz Group GURLS\, to her own projects Pixel and the Ellen Andrea Wang Trio\, Wang has consistently sought to tastefully blend Jazz and Pop in new ways. Her compositions and performance balance the lyrical with the rough\, the acoustic with the electric\, resulting in a unique modern sound. \nEllen Andrea Wang’s third studio album\, Closeness (Ropeadope 2020)\, features Wang on double bass and vocals\, with Rob Luft on guitar and Jon Fält on drums. In what now seems prescient\, the album is an adventurous mix of traditional spirituals\, soothing in their delivery\, longing and personal compositions\, and three selected covers from Ornette Coleman (Lonely Woman)\, Traditional (Wayfaring Stranger) and Pat Metheny (This Is Not America). The connection between the musicians is quite evident as they approach each song with patience and absolute care for the art. \nA commanding presence in any ensemble she plays in\, her soft tone and vocal precision are always counterbalanced with heavy and assertive grooves from her double-bass\, interlocking with drummers\, jazz\, pop and groove alike.  The Guardian \nUK guitarist Rob Luft has seamlessly moved from being a ‘star of the future’ (eg as a BBC ‘New Generation Artist’)\, to an undoubted star of the here and now\, as we saw on two different occasions in 2022 at SoundCellar! In addition to two tremendous albums released under his own name on Edition Records (with a third one due in Oct 2023)\, he has electrified audiences with collaborations alongside some of the finest musicians around\, including releasing acclaimed albums with Dave O’Higgins\, Alice Zawadzki\, Elina Duni (on the legendary ECM label) and most recently with master musician John Surman\, due for release on ECM in 2023. \nSwedish drummer Jon Fält has played and recorded with many legends of the jazz world such as Palle Danielsson\, Fredrick Nordstrom\, Bobo Stenson (on ECM) and Fredrik Ljungkvist.
