Adam has released on US label Sunnyside Records\, two albums ‘Free at First’ (South African Music Award Best Jazz Album 2010) and ‘Mzansi’ (2012 SAMA Nomination Best Jazz Album) He led workshops at the 2017 World Harmonica Festival in Trossingen and performed is active on the UK jazz scene and major international festivals in Southern Africa. \nHannes Riepler grew up in Austria\, studied jazz guitar in Amsterdam and moved to London in 2006\, where he dived into the vibrant scene and played all over the city alongside fellow jazzers young and old. An energetic and inventive guitar player\, spirited composer and host of the renowned Vortex Downstairs Jazz Night jam session\, he has become a mover and shaker of jazz in London himself. Riepler’s music is rooted in jazz tradition\, contemporary and melodic\, but always immediate and hot. Freewheeling at times\, it thrillingly swings in New York Downtown style\, which is perfectly matched by the fine musicians in his Quintet. DESCRIPTION:Guitarist Sagat Guirey will be performing in the upstairs room of  The Avocet with his group KNOWN UNKNOWNS.\n \nFREE ADMISSION (donations most welcome!)\n \nSagat was classically trained in London\, then later attended the Dick Grove School of Music in Los Angeles\, specialising in jazz guitar\, composition and arranging. He was also lucky enough to have private lessons with jazz guitar legends Ted Greene and Phil Upchurch. More recently he studied gypsy jazz with Lollo Meier in The Netherlands. And also with Sheryl Bailey and Jonathan Kreisberg. Sagat has also composed music for film\, TV and commercials and worked with many artists including Nigel Kennedy\, Belinda Carlisle\, Roachford\, Robert Trujillo and many others. \nTonight Sagat will be performing with fellow guitarist Rob Palmer\, electric bassist Rodney Teague and drummer Dave Wallace to play a set which will include tunes by John Scofield\, Jimmy Smith\, The Crusaders\, Kenny Burrell and The Meters. DESCRIPTION:Thokozile were formed on the back of a British Council music exchange back to South Africa in 2010. DESCRIPTION:SoundCellar presents: In Our Own Space \nThursday 4th June sees the start of a series of performances via the Zoom platform to bring some regular and some new SoundCellar artists direct to your ‘own space’. The schedule for Thursday will be 8.15pm start\, a one set performance followed by a Q&A session with the artist. \nThe series starts with pianist SAM LEAK. Sam performs contemporary jazz with a gospel-tinged\, and folk-inspired\, freedom and abandon. Conjuring up the joy and emotion typified by Paul Bley and Keith Jarrett\, he maintains a sense of the tradition whilst performing music that is very much rooted in the UK Jazz movement of the moment.
