SUMMARY:HARRY CHRISTELIS' 'PRESERVING FICTIONS'
DESCRIPTION:Guitarist and composer Harry Christelis and his quartet perform music from Preserving Fictions\, a captivating blend of jazz\, folk\, and ambient soundscapes. Expect inventive interplay\, haunting beauty\, and deep emotional resonance from this remarkable group of musicians. \nThis gig will take place at The Grasshopper\,\n139 – 141 Bournemouth Rd\, Poole BH14 9HT. \nPlease note: If parking in either of the car parks at The Grasshopper\, you must register your vehicle on one of the dedicated terminals at the bar or in the function room. \nTicket link below \nGuitarist and composer Harry Christelis presents his new album\, Preserving Fictions — an exploration of how music and art can serve as a means to preserve and document the seeming truths we see\, hear\, feel\, and experience every day. This record\, a continuation and development of his 2025 EP Half Truths (recorded during the same session)\, sees Christelis delve deeper into a sound world that has become synonymous with his name\, fusing elements of jazz and folk traditions with ambient drones and delicate electronic textures to create a truly immersive listening experience. \nFeaturing his long-standing quartet of Christos Stylianides (trumpet/effects)\, Andrea Di Biase (double bass/synth)\, and Dave Storey (drums)\, the highly acclaimed musicians constantly break free from their traditional roles within the jazz idiom. Instead\, they embrace a deeply communal approach to improvisation\, colouring\, shaping\, and delineating every moment of each piece together. Across the adventurous 58-minute album\, the listener is taken on a journey that moves through dreamy psychedelic trips\, expansive soundscapes\, delicate moments of intimacy\, and furious bursts of energy — all seamlessly bound by a tone that holds sombre and hopeful feelings in harmonious equilibrium. \n“Compelling ambient music pitched somewhere between In A Silent Way-era Miles Davis and late-era Talk Talk” – The Guardian \n“Music with a serene beauty” – Kevin Le Gendre\, BBC Radio 3 \n“Breathy and textural tones that perfectly create a sense of space and memory” – Soweto Kinch\, BBC Radio 3 \nHarry Christelis: guitar\nGeorge Crowley: tenor saxophone/effects\nAndrea Di Biase: double bass/synth\nDave Storey: drums \nEntry is £17.50 (no booking fee) in advance through the below link\, or £20 on the door (cash or card). \nShare this event

SUMMARY:LIVESTREAM - HARRY CHRISTELIS' 'PRESERVING FICTIONS'
DESCRIPTION:Guitarist and composer Harry Christelis and his quartet perform music from Preserving Fictions\, a captivating blend of jazz\, folk\, and ambient soundscapes. Expect inventive interplay\, haunting beauty\, and deep emotional resonance from this remarkable group of musicians.\n \nClick here for tickets to attend the physical gig.\nLivestream Ticket link below \nGuitarist and composer Harry Christelis presents his new album\, Preserving Fictions — an exploration of how music and art can serve as a means to preserve and document the seeming truths we see\, hear\, feel\, and experience every day. \n“Compelling ambient music pitched somewhere between In A Silent Way-era Miles Davis and late-era Talk Talk” – The Guardian \n“Music with a serene beauty” – Kevin Le Gendre\, BBC Radio 3 \n“Breathy and textural tones that perfectly create a sense of space and memory” – Soweto Kinch\, BBC Radio 3 \nHarry Christelis: guitar\nGeorge Crowley: tenor saxophone/effects\nAndrea Di Biase: double bass/synth\nDave Storey: drums \nThe livestream will be broadcast on YouTube\, via a page available when you purchase a ticket through the link below. \nAll advance ticket buyers will receive an exclusive link to a video of the evening’s performance\, available for one month. \nShare this event

DESCRIPTION:A perfect way to celebrate International Jazz Day 2026.  After seeing MANGORATA play a fantastic set at We Out Here Festival in 2024\, two of the SoundCellar team were instantly motivated to bring the band here to Poole.  It’s taken well over a year to make it happen\, but we are excited that we are at last presenting this great young band. \nClick here for tickets to attend the physical gig.\nLivestream Ticket link below \nSix Leeds based musicians come together to form Mangorata\, with a sound characterised by wild and inventive improvisation in a jungle of Afro-Cuban\, Brazilian\, Swing and Funk groove. With a wide array of textures\, Mangorata are unafraid to lead their musical stories in fully fledged bustling rhythm\, or stripped back intimacy. \nDrummer Miles Pillinger is fast becoming one of the ‘go-to’ drummers on the London circuit and has recently been awarded the prestigious Peter Whittingham Jazz Award. Trumpeter Olivia Cuttill’s star is exponentially rising too\, as indicated by her success as the recipient of the special Martin Hummel Award at the 2025 Parliamentary Jazz Awards last October. \nTheir shows have already taken them many times around the Leeds circuit and in multiple other parts of the UK. The band’s inspiration draws upon the works of musical legends such as Herbie Hancock (co-curator of International Jazz Day 2026)\, Chick Corea\, Wayne Shorter\, Hermeto Pascoal and many more. \nMangorata’s own latest work\, a self titled EP described as “First class” by Jazz FM’s John Osbourne\, is only the beginning of a new wave of Jazz that the band are excited to continue to spread. \nMiles Pillinger: Drums\nOlivia Cuttill: Trumpet\nJames Absalom: Tenor Saxophone\nLiam Mason: Piano\nChris Williams: Bass\nJJ Petrie: Percussion \nThe livestream will be broadcast on YouTube\, via a page available when you purchase a ticket through the link below. \nAll advance ticket buyers will receive an exclusive link to a video of the evening’s performance\, available for one month. \nShare this event

He has recorded over forty albums. John’s main projects currently are his acclaimed quartet Congregation\, featuring Mercury Prize nominee James Mainwaring and playing John’s original music\, bringing together acoustic and electronic music\, his all-acoustic quartet Re-Creations\, featuring Parliamentary Jazz Award winner Sam Crockatt\, playing versions of tunes from jazz/pop/classical and Renaissance\, an ambient\, electronic keyboards project with saxophonist Jon Lloyd and visual artist Patrick Dunn\, playing improvised music over samples created out of sacred vocal music from the 15th and 16th centuries. \nAnt Law is a highly regarded British jazz guitarist\, composer and bandleader known for his inventive and forward-thinking approach to contemporary jazz. Described by The Guardian as “a game changer” and “an innovator”\, Law studied physics at Edinburgh University and spent time at Berklee College of Music before settling in London and establishing himself on the international jazz scene.
