SUMMARY:LIVESTREAM - MANGORATA feat Miles Pillinger & Olivia Cuttill
DESCRIPTION:A perfect way to celebrate International Jazz Day 2026.  After seeing MANGORATA play a fantastic set at We Out Here Festival in 2023\, two of the SoundCellar team were instantly motivated to bring the band here to Poole.  It’s taken well over a year to make it happen\, but we are excited that we are at last presenting this great young band. \nClick here for tickets to attend the physical gig.\nLivestream Ticket link below \nSix Leeds based musicians come together to form Mangorata\, with a sound characterised by wild and inventive improvisation in a jungle of Afro-Cuban\, Brazilian\, Swing and Funk groove. With a wide array of textures\, Mangorata are unafraid to lead their musical stories in fully fledged bustling rhythm\, or stripped back intimacy. \nDrummer Miles Pillinger is fast becoming one of the ‘go-to’ drummers on the London circuit and has recently been awarded the prestigious Peter Whittingham Jazz Award. Trumpeter Olivia Cuttill’s star is exponentially rising too\, as indicated by her success as the recipient of the special Martin Hummel Award at the 2025 Parliamentary Jazz Awards last October. \nTheir shows have already taken them many times around the Leeds circuit and in multiple other parts of the UK. The band’s inspiration draws upon the works of musical legends such as Herbie Hancock (co-curator of International Jazz Day 2026)\, Chick Corea\, Wayne Shorter\, Hermeto Pascoal and many more. \nMangorata’s own latest work\, a self titled EP described as “First class” by Jazz FM’s John Osbourne\, is only the beginning of a new wave of Jazz that the band are excited to continue to spread. \nMiles Pillinger: Drums\nOlivia Cuttill: Trumpet\nJames Absalom: Tenor Saxophone\nLiam Mason: Piano\nChris Williams: Bass\nJJ Petrie: Percussion \nThe livestream will be broadcast on YouTube\, via a page available when you purchase a ticket through the link below. \nAll advance ticket buyers will receive an exclusive link to a video of the evening’s performance\, available for one month. \nShare this event

SUMMARY:LIVESTREAM - MALI SHEARD'S HOMESTEAD
DESCRIPTION:SoundCellar and Tomorrow’s Warriors present MALI SHEARD’S HOMESTEAD. Undoubtedly destined to become stars of the future\, we welcome alto/soprano saxophonist Mali Sheard and her Homestead quintet to Poole\, marking our second collaboration with the award-winning artist development organisation Tomorrow’s Warriors. \nClick here for tickets to attend the physical gig.\nLivestream Ticket link below \nAgain featuring outstanding young musicians\, this quintet made an extremely strong impression on members of the SoundCellar team at both the We Out Here and London Jazz Festivals in 2025. \nBlending the lyricism of folk traditions with the rhythmic drive of contemporary jazz\, Mali Sheard is a young saxophonist and composer whose music is both evocative and adventurous. Leading this dynamic quintet\, she crafts original compositions that explore melody\, groove\, and improvisation\, drawing influence from Brian Blade and the Fellowship\, Phil Woods\, Antonio Carlos Jobim\, and Laura Mvula. \nHer songs often reflect on personal journeys – discovering new people and places\, facing challenges\, and returning to the “comfort of the homestead” to reflect and dream of future adventures. This storytelling approach gives her music a sense of warmth\, intimacy\, and cinematic scope. \nMali met her bandmates – Keira Chakraborty\, Ky Osborne\, George Balmont and Luke McCarthy (seen at SoundCellar with Donovan Haffner last November)\, through Tomorrow’s Warriors and the Royal Academy of Music\, forming a compelling ensemble. \nWith their debut recording forthcoming\, Mali Sheard and her quintet continue to push boundaries\, creating music that is heartfelt\, imaginative\, and distinctly their own – a sound poised to leave a lasting mark on the UK jazz scene. \nABOUT TOMORROW’S WARRIORS\nIf you know your UK jazz\, then you probably already know Tomorrow’s Warriors. Over the 35 years the talent development charity has played a vital role within its community and the wider music industry and has been credited with literally changing the face of UK jazz. \nThey have supported 1000s of young musicians and helped nurture the careers of so many of the most exciting UK artists currently tearing up the international jazz scene including Mercury Prize 2023 winners and BRIT Awards Best Group of 2025 EZRA Collective\, Moses Boyd\, Nubya Garcia\, Shabaka Hutchings and Sons of Kemet\, ESKA\, Jason Yarde\, Denys Baptiste\, Robert Mitchell\, Soweto Kinch\, Shirley Tetteh\, Byron Wallen…the list goes on. \n“Tomorrow’s Warriors occupies a unique and vital space in our cultural landscape. A long time member and co-leader of the classic jazz rock band Soft Machine\, Theo Travis has also worked with Robert Fripp\, David Gilmour\, David Sylvian\, Steven Wilson\, John Etheridge\, Gong and Keith Tippett amongst others. He has performed all over the world including the USA\, Canada\, Japan\, Europe\, Scandinavia and the UK. This will be an evening of passionate music and haunting instrumental songs from one of Britain’s top saxophonists and flautists and his band. Don’t miss! www.theotravis.com\n \n“As a saxophonist\, Travis can bridge swing-sax romanticism\, Ronnie Laws funkiness\, or a little of Andy Sheppard’s quirky\, asymmetrical phrasing. As a flautist who sparingly deploys hypnotic electronic assistance\, he can be as poetically minimalist as any ECM Records star. But he can be a headlong groover too\, and there’s plenty of that on the Double Talk project\, with its fierce organ-blasting\, driving guitar soloing from the gifted Mike Outram\, and no-prisoners drumming from the excellent Nic France” Jazz UK \n” Travis’ tenor is a warm\, mellifluous instrument and together with the luscious\, bluesy Hammond organ they create something rather unexpected…a prog-rock/jazz/blues hybrid album of genuine power and excitement “ BBC Website \n“Theo’s powerful bluesy sax playing should be enough to convince that he’s certainly one of the most intelligently accessible players around”  Venue \n“for those whose tastes run the gamut from pop and rock to prog\, ambient and\, of course\, jazz\, Double Talk is an album that pays big dividends for an artist (and group) that deserves to emerge from hidden treasure status” All About Jazz (USA)\n \nTheo Travis: tenor and soprano saxes\, flutes\nMike Outram: guitar\nPete Whittaker: hammond organ\nNic France: drums\, percussion \nThe livestream will be broadcast on YouTube\, via a page available when you purchase a ticket through the link below. \nAll advance ticket buyers will receive an exclusive link to a video of the evening’s performance\, available for one month. \nShare this event

SUMMARY:LIVESTREAM - LEVY/ROBSON INTERNATIONAL QUARTET
DESCRIPTION:Formed in NYC in 2017\, US saxophonist JED LEVY and British guitarist PHIL ROBSON bring their international quartet to SoundCellar\, featuring Italian drummer ROBERTO GATTO and British bassist MARK HODGSON. Their innovative\, melodic jazz blends tradition with contemporary grooves\, captivating audiences at iconic venues worldwide. \nClick here for tickets to attend the physical gig.\nLivestream Ticket link below \nThis musical partnership was formed in New York City in 2017 between the highly acclaimed US saxophonist JED LEVY (Jaki Byard\, Jack McDu/\, Mike Clark\, Tom Harrell etc) and multi-award-winning UK born guitarist PHIL ROBSON (Mark Turner\, David Liebman\, Billy Hart\, Partisans\, etc)\, who was living in NYC at the time. The American quartet featuring Peter Slavov and Clarence Penn quickly began to become a regular feature in the city’s iconic venues such as Smalls\, Birdland\, 55 Bar etc\, as well as touring in the UK\, Germany\, Spain\, Ireland\, Northern California and more. Robson relocated to Ireland in 2020\, but since that time the collaboration has continued with various European incarnations of the band. \nThe current line-up features one of Europe’s most celebrated drummers\, from Rome\, ROBERTO GATTO (Freddie Hubbard\, John Scofield\, Joe Zawinul\, Michael Brecker\, etc) and the incredible UK bassist MARK HODGSON (Randy Brecker\, Cedar Walton\, Eddie Henderson\, Greg Osby\, etc) who is one of the most in demand bassists on the contemporary jazz scene today. \nThe quartet plays original music penned by both Levy and Robson. The music is innovative and contemporary whilst remaining highly melodic and groovy\, with a strong sense of tradition mixed in with the diverse characteristics of each composer. \n“This was high-powered jazz\, not by dint of frenetic pace\, volume or assertiveness but by the beauty and coherence of the quartet sound that was at once polished but fresh and lively. That’s a difficult poise to strike\, even for musicians as able as these\, yet for all that they were fully engaged\, each seemed entirely in his element.” The Whitman Review of Wakefield Jazz Concert \n“Added to the warmth of his sound and excellent command of the instrument\, Levy is an impressive package deserving wider international recognition. Phil Robson is already gaining wider international recognition\, as witnessed by the admiring comments on his playing from Peter Bernstein and Wayne Krantz to be found on his website. His great fluidity and fleet inventiveness were\, as ever\, balm for the ears.” London Jazz News \nJed Levy: Sax\nPhil Robson: Guitar\nMark Hodgson: Bass\nRoberto Gatto: Drums \nThe livestream will be broadcast on YouTube\, via a page available when you purchase a ticket through the link below. \nAll advance ticket buyers will receive an exclusive link to a video of the evening’s performance\, available for one month. \nShare this event

SUMMARY:LIVESTREAM - FINI BEARMAN
DESCRIPTION:Fini Bearman is a London-based singer\, songwriter\, composer\, and multi-instrumentalist. Her music melds diverse influences from jazz\, folk\, and contemporary songs into an “arresting and uniquely personal” sound. Fini makes her SoundCellar debut with her quartet to promote her latest release Last Night of The World. \nClick here for tickets to attend the physical gig.\nLivestream Ticket link below \nTouring her 5th studio album\, Last Night of the World (Pastiche Records)\, Fini is joined by Conor Chaplin (bass)\, Chris Higginbottom (drums) & Tom Cawley (keyboards) for a special night showcasing this new music. \nAn eclectic collection of jazz\, folk & pop-infused songs\, Last Night of the World draws on Fini’s experiences of motherhood & new beginnings\, of love & loss\, sometimes of a new-found sense of meaning\, sometimes an existential lack thereof! \nThe record was conceived using writing exercises created for her work teaching songwriting\, and these seeds grew over time\, coming to fruition in tandem with her pregnancy; final vocal and instrumental takes often taking place with Bridget asleep in a sling… Inspiration for the songs is drawn from a diverse spectrum of influences: the melodic inventiveness of Madison Cunningham\, the esoteric jazz/folk realms of Becca Stevens\, Chris Thile\, Paul Simon and the electronic\, minimalist songwriting voice of Bjork. \nThis album marks a departure from Fini’s last LP (the solo record La Loba\, 2020) and acts as a return to her true ‘musical north’- a jazz-meets-indie-pop rhythm section playing lyric-based songs\, with nuanced and at times complex harmonic structures and rhythmic idiosyncrasies. Each song is individual and unique in its own right\, with space for improvisation\, interaction and connection. \nFini Bearman: Vocals\nTom Cawley: Keyboards\nConor Chaplin: Bass\nChris Higginbottom: Drums \nThe livestream will be broadcast on YouTube\, via a page available when you purchase a ticket through the link below. \nAll advance ticket buyers will receive an exclusive link to a video of the evening’s performance\, available for one month. \nShare this event
