SUMMARY:LIVESTREAM - FINI BEARMAN
DESCRIPTION:Fini Bearman is a London-based singer\, songwriter\, composer\, and multi-instrumentalist. Her music melds diverse influences from jazz\, folk\, and contemporary songs into an “arresting and uniquely personal” sound. Fini makes her SoundCellar debut with her quartet to promote her latest release Last Night of The World. \nClick here for tickets to attend the physical gig.\nLivestream Ticket link below \nTouring her 5th studio album\, Last Night of the World (Pastiche Records)\, Fini is joined by Conor Chaplin (bass)\, Chris Higginbottom (drums) & Tom Cawley (keyboards) for a special night showcasing this new music. \nAn eclectic collection of jazz\, folk & pop-infused songs\, Last Night of the World draws on Fini’s experiences of motherhood & new beginnings\, of love & loss\, sometimes of a new-found sense of meaning\, sometimes an existential lack thereof! \nThe record was conceived using writing exercises created for her work teaching songwriting\, and these seeds grew over time\, coming to fruition in tandem with her pregnancy; final vocal and instrumental takes often taking place with Bridget asleep in a sling… Inspiration for the songs is drawn from a diverse spectrum of influences: the melodic inventiveness of Madison Cunningham\, the esoteric jazz/folk realms of Becca Stevens\, Chris Thile\, Paul Simon and the electronic\, minimalist songwriting voice of Bjork. \nThis album marks a departure from Fini’s last LP (the solo record La Loba\, 2020) and acts as a return to her true ‘musical north’- a jazz-meets-indie-pop rhythm section playing lyric-based songs\, with nuanced and at times complex harmonic structures and rhythmic idiosyncrasies. Each song is individual and unique in its own right\, with space for improvisation\, interaction and connection. \nFini Bearman: Vocals\nTom Cawley: Keyboards\nConor Chaplin: Bass\nChris Higginbottom: Drums \nThe livestream will be broadcast on YouTube\, via a page available when you purchase a ticket through the link below. \nAll advance ticket buyers will receive an exclusive link to a video of the evening’s performance\, available for one month. \nShare this event

DESCRIPTION:For our next SoundCellar – curated Synergy Session\, we have brought together the amazing pairing of Trish Clowes and Mike Outram\, plus a killer rhythm section of Calum Gourlay and Joel Barford! \nClick here for tickets to attend the physical gig.\nLivestream Ticket link below \nIncredibly\, it has been over 12 years since composer and saxophonist extraordinaire Trish Clowes played at SoundCellar\, so we are particularly delighted to see her return. Although they play together very occasionally\, we are especially excited to team Trish up with one of SoundCellar’s most respected guitarists Mike Outram\, for this special evening here in Poole. \nTrish Clowes has released eight albums as leader and heads up her acclaimed band My Iris.  In addition\, she recently released a duo album ‘Journey To Where’ in 2024 with her long-time colleague\, SoundCellar regular Ross Stanley. \nTrish has also written for orchestras and larger ensembles\, such as a recent commission to compose and arrange for the famous NDR Big Band\, for a series of concerts in Germany in November 2024.  Dr Trish Clowes is Jazz Saxophone Professor at the Royal Academy of Music and an Associate Artist at London’s Wigmore Hall. \n“…one of the most agile and original jugglers of improv and adventurous composition to have appeared in the UK in recent times” (The Guardian) \nMike Outram needs little introduction to SoundCellar audiences\, having played here many times in many different combinations over the years. He always proves to be a popular choice with our regular patrons\, because they recognise that he is simply one of the best guitarists out there!  He has played music all over the world & recorded around 100 albums with people like Steven Wilson\, Tim Garland\, Theo Travis\, Robert Fripp\, Jeremy Stacey\, Cory Wong\, Nikki Iles and many others. \nAs well as leading and recording with his own ensembles\, bassist Calum Gourlay has played and recorded with amazing artists such as Tommy Smith\, Kit Downes\, Kurt Elling\, Richard Rodney Bennett\, Arild Andersen\, Makoto Ozone and others. He last played at SoundCellar with Nick Costley-White back in 2018\, so we are delighted to have him return. \nTop drummer Joel Barford will be making his SoundCellar debut.  Joel has played with many well known artists such as Alfie Boe\, Michael Ball\, Roy Wood and Liane Carroll\, as well as with SoundCellar ‘alumni’ such as Nigel Price\, Jim Mullen\, Laurence Cottle\, Dave O’Higgins\, Alex Hitchcock\, Tom Ollendorff and Alex Garnett. He also took over the full time drum stool in Trish’s My Iris band at the beginning of 2023. \nTrish Clowes: Sax\nMike Outram: Guitar\nCalum Gourlay: Bass\nJoel Barford: Drums \nThe livestream will be broadcast on YouTube\, via a page available when you purchase a ticket through the link below. \nAll advance ticket buyers will receive an exclusive link to a video of the evening’s performance\, available for one month. \nShare this event

SUMMARY:LIVESTREAM - JAKUB KLIMIUK QUINTET feat MARK LOCKHEART
DESCRIPTION:To kick 2025 off perfectly here at SoundCellar\, we have a brilliant young ensemble: the Jakub Klimiuk Quintet\, with very special guest Mark Lockheart. \nClick here for tickets to attend the physical gig.\nLivestream Ticket link below \nJakub Klimiuk Quintet is a London-based ensemble that fuses influences from the Scandinavian improvised scene and contemporary New York jazz\, creating a sound full of exciting tension. The resultant repertoire is a combination of scripted forms and improvised sections\, constantly entwining melodic compositions and experimental sonic escapades. \nThe band’s recent album ”(un)balanced”\, featuring saxophonist Mark Lockheart\, tells the story of seeking balance in today’s reality\, manoeuvring through the overwhelming deluge of information and striving to discover inspiration in everyday routine. We are very excited that SoundCellar favourite Mark will be appearing with Jakub and the band at The Grasshopper. \nThe quintet has performed at major UK jazz venues\, including Vortex Jazz Club\, Pizza Express Live\, 606 Club\, receiving favourable reviews from European press outlets such as UK Jazz News and Jazz Forum. \n“Jakub’s original compositions\, his own playing and that of this fabulous band were also appropriately full of optimism and the promise of good days to come. Nights like this reassure us that the future of jazz is in safe hands.” – UK Jazz News \nJakub Klimiuk is a Polish jazz guitarist and composer based in London. Throughout the years\, he has recorded and shared the stage with the likes of Jonas Kullhammar\, John Horler\, Dave O’Higgins\, Krystyna Stańko and of course Mark Lockheart\, working with both UK-based and international projects.  Jakub first made his mark on the British jazz scene at the EFG London Jazz Festival with his original project.  He is an adventurous composer\, focused on experimenting with musical forms and implementing compositional techniques derived from contemporary classical music into jazz. His original compositions are a unique combination of arranged structures\, often based on counterpoints\, and fully improvised sections. He mentions the current New York scene (Mark Turner\, Jonathan Kreisberg\, Aaron Parks) and Scandinavian musicians like Petter Eldh and Jakob Bro\, as his main influences. \nMark Lockheart needs little introduction to SoundCellar audiences\, having played two fabulous gigs here with his quartet ‘Dreamers’\, the most recent of which was in October 2024.  Mark is undoubtedly one of the foremost saxophonists in the UK\, having been a member of such iconic bands as Loose Tubes\, Perfect Houseplants\, Polar Bear\, The Printmakers and others\, as well having a major body of his own work. \nLine-up:\nJakub Klimiuk – Guitar\nMark Lockheart – Tenor & Soprano Saxophone\nSimeon May – Tenor Saxophone\, Bass Clarinet\nCody Moss – Piano\nKinzan – Double bass\nAdam Merrell – Drums \nThe livestream will be broadcast on YouTube\, via a page available when you purchase a ticket through the link below. \nAll advance ticket buyers will receive an exclusive link to a video of the evening’s performance\, available for one month. \nShare this event

SUMMARY:LIVESTREAM - NICOLAS MEIER WORLD GROUP
DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed guitarist NICOLAS MEIER returns to SoundCellar with his four piece WORLD GROUP. Drawing from a love of Turkish\, Eastern & Middle Eastern music\, Flamenco\, Tango and more — all mixed with jazz — we are delighted to welcome Nicolas back with his guitar\, violin\, piano\, percussion ensemble.\n \nClick here for tickets to attend the physical gig.\nLivestream Ticket link below \nUK-based guitarist Nicolas Meier has carved a reputation out as one of the world’s most original and uniquely talented guitarists. So much so\, that his considerable talents drew the attention of rock guitar legend\, Jeff Beck\, who made Nicolas a mainstay in The Jeff Beck Group — carrying him on two world tours during the course of the last several years. \nNicolas originally hails from Switzerland; born in 1973\, to parents who are great lovers of the arts. Never short on ambition\, Meier founded his own record label\, MGP Records\, in 2009. To date\, he’s produced twelve albums: as a solo artist; in various group formats (The Nicolas Meier Group; Nicolas Meier Trio; Eclectica!; Nicolas Meier World Group); with his heavy metal band\, Seven7\, and; in a duo format\, with long-time partner\, fellow guitarist and collaborator\, the fabulous UK master\, Pete Oxley. \n2017 was a breakthrough year: one in which Steve Vai’s Favored Nations Records released Nicolas’ brilliant solo album\, “Infinity.” The album was recorded in LA and performed in a trio format — featuring fellow virtuosic veterans\, Jimmy Haslip\, on bass\, and Vinnie Colaiuta on drums. Most recently\, Nicolas has completed and released two new albums on MGP (Meier Group Productions): the already-well-received album new duo album with Pete Oxley\, “The Alluring Ascent\,” and; the 2019 released Nicolas Meier World Group’s pristine effort\, “Peaceful” was supported with a 50-dates tour. 2020 saw the release of the  World Group “Live” album recorded at Colchester Arts Centre\, the Meier Budjana Group album “Flying Spirits” featuring Jimmy Haslip and the Solo Guitar Album “Stories” and metal album “Escapades” from Nicolas’ My Dark Side!  \nBy 2022 a new World Group studio album called “Magnificent” came out. A 3 CD package including “Live” and “Stories”. To promote this release there have been lots of UK concerts plus an 11 date European tour opening for rock guitar icon Steve Vai!\n \nNicolas Meier: Fretless/fretted guitars and Glissentar\nRichard Jones: Violin\nAlex Hutton: Piano\nDemi Garcia: Percussion \nThe livestream will be broadcast on YouTube\, via a page available when you purchase a ticket through the link below. \nAll advance ticket buyers will receive an exclusive link to a video of the evening’s performance\, available for one month. \nShare this event

SUMMARY:LIVESTREAM - ROB LUFT QUARTET 'DAHAB DAYS'
DESCRIPTION:Regular SoundCellar patrons will undoubtedly be delighted\, as are we\, that we are presenting the ROB LUFT QUARTET ‘DAHAB DAYS’ \nClick here for tickets to attend the physical gig.\nLivestream Ticket link below \nRob has graced the SoundCellar stage in recent years with three different scintillating ensembles: (i) with Alice Zawadzki’s trio\, (ii) in a guitar duo with Mike Outram and band\, and (iii) in last year’s wonderful gig by Ellen Andrea Wang’s Closeness. We thought it was time we gave Rob centre stage with his own band\, in order to hear live performances of some of the fabulous music from his own repertoire. \nRob Luft has seamlessly moved from being a ‘star of the future’ (eg as a BBC ‘New Generation Artist’)\, to an undoubted star of the here and now!  He has released three critically acclaimed albums on Edition Records under his own name: 2017’s debut ‘Riser’ sold out of CDs long ago\, 2020’s follow up ‘Life Is The Dancer’ \n“Life Is The Dancer is balm for the soul” – Chris May\, All About Jazz \nand Rob’s most recent release 2023’s ‘Dahab Days’\, which has rightly been lauded as a major piece of work \n“…a celebration of the serenity and vitality of nature\, shot through with flavours from the Middle East\, Africa and beyond” – Neil Spencer\, **** The Guardian \n“Rob Luft’s writing and playing just seems to get better and better…” – Mike Gates\, UK Vibe \nRob’s talents are also becoming known beyond the realms of ‘jazz’\, with the world premiere of his orchestral guitar concerto ‘From Silence\, Music Is Born’ at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall last November (witnessed by two of the SoundCellar team and broadcast on BBC R3). \nIn addition\, Rob has electrified audiences with collaborations alongside some of the finest musicians around\, including releasing acclaimed albums with Dave O’Higgins\, Alice Zawadzki\, Elina Duni (on the legendary ECM label)\, as a member of the band Big Bad Wolf and most recently appearing live with legendary musician John Surman and on John’s 2024 ECM release ‘Words Unspoken’. \nRob’s quartet for this gig unsurprisingly consists of some of the UK’s finest players\, with in-demand bassist Will Sach and the welcome returns to SoundCellar of saxophonist Joe Wright and drummer Jay Davis \nRob Luft: Guitar\nJoe Wright: Sax\nWill Sach: Bass\nJay Davis: Drums \nThe livestream will be broadcast on YouTube\, via a page available when you purchase a ticket through the link below. \nAll advance ticket buyers will receive an exclusive link to a video of the evening’s performance\, available for one month. \nShare this event

SUMMARY:LIVESTREAM - MARK LOCKHEART'S 'DREAMERS'
DESCRIPTION:An unquestionable highlight of 2023 was to have MARK LOCKHEART’S DREAMERS make their SoundCellar debut. When Mark offered to return\, we relaxed our normal ‘gap between visits’ rule and jumped at the opportunity! \nClick here for tickets to attend the physical gig.\nLivestream Ticket link below \nMark is a true ‘legend’ of UK jazz and Dreamers is just oozing with three more top-notch musicians – Elliot Galvin\, Tom Herbert and Dave Smith. \nUrgent and exciting grooves and textures all cleverly crafted together within Lockheart’s unique and memorable melodies\, they can be heard in their full glory on their 2022 album ‘Dreamers’ on Edition Records. \nMark Lockheart has been at the forefront of contemporary music since he first came to prominence with Loose Tubes in the mid-1980s. Since then\, he has become a ‘go to’ for many of today’s top artists\, across many genres\, not least as a member of Polar Bear\, as a featured soloist for acclaimed composer Mark Anthony Turnage\, as a member of The Printmakers and providing wonderful colour to recent albums by Slowly Rolling Camera. \nMark has released many albums under his own name\, ranging from large jazz ensembles (listen to this year’s album ‘Smiling’)\, large orchestral works (check out 2019’s ‘Days On Earth’)\, to smaller ensembles and duos such as his 2019 ‘renaissance’ album ‘Salvator Mundi’ with organist Roger Mayer and his work with recent SoundCellar visitor\, pianist Huw Warren. \nMark’s ensemble Dreamers includes the fantastic combination of Elliot Galvin’s keyboards and electronics\, Tom Herbert’s fabulous bass and the subtle but powerful drums of Dave Smith. Elliot is well known to jazz enthusiasts as a member of Laura Jurd’s Dinosaur\, for his work with Marius Neset and Binker Golding\, and for his own fine albums. Tom is probably best known as an original member of Acoustic Ladyland\, as well as Mercury Music Prize nominated bands Polar Bear and The Invisible. Dave has played with many top artists\, such as Donny McCaslin\, Eddie Henderson\, Iain Ballamy and Seth Lakeman. He was also a member of Cloudmaker’s Trio (who played SoundCellar in 2012) and he toured the world as a member of Robert Plant’s band for 6 years. \n“Built from the past\, but creating vivid potentials for the future\, Dreamers is the stuff all good jazz is made of” Jazzwise **** \n“The sound of surprise is still with us” BBC Music Magazine ****\n \n“State of the art jazz from a master who refuses to stand still and once again sets the bar very high as he journeys on and ever deeper” Marlbank **** \nMark Lockheart – saxophones\nElliot Galvin – keyboards\, Electronics\nTom Herbert – bass guitar\nDave Smith – drums \nThe livestream will be broadcast on YouTube\, via a page available when you purchase a ticket through the link below. \nAll advance ticket buyers will receive an exclusive link to a video of the evening’s performance\, available for one month. \nShare this event

By turns virtuoso\, lyrical\, and naively sentimental – Choro Choro Choro brings new twists on this great dance music and is guaranteed to leave you smiling! \nHuw Warren has created several previous projects around the music of Brazil\, including collaborations with Jovino Santos Neto; a critically acclaimed recording of Hermeto’s music (‘Hermeto+’) in 2009; a trio record for CAM Jazz ‘Everything in Between’ in 2019 and ‘Core Coracao’ from 2017 with Maria Pia de Vito\, Gabriele Mirabassi\, Roberto Taufic\, and the legendary Chico Buarque. \n Welsh pianist and composer Huw Warren has achieved an international reputation for innovative and eclectic music making\, over a thirty year career. Equally at home crossing the often exclusive worlds of Jazz\, World and Contemporary music; he has a distinctive and personal voice\, and has collaborated with a huge variety of artists worldwide \nHuw has recorded 2 albums for ECM (as Quercus with June Tabor and SoundCellar favourite Iain Ballamy) and in 2018 released a solo piano recording Nocturnes and Visions. In 2019 he released 2 albums for Italian label CAM Jazz Everything in Between (with Dudley Phillips and Zoot Warren) and New Day (with another firm SoundCellar favourite Mark Lockheart). His previous albums and projects have included themes and source material as diverse as John Dowland\, Plainchant and Hermeto Pascoal. In 2024\, as well as releasing his solo piano recording ‘Choro Choro Choro’\, Huw has also released ‘Calennig’ an album of Plygain arrangements with singer Angharad Jenkins. \nHis appearance with the famed Perfect Houseplants (alongside Mark Lockheart\, Dudley Phillips & Martin France) at last year’s Swanage Jazz Festival was the stuff of legends. Words\, on this occasion\, cannot do it justice” – London Jazz News \n“Apart from the joyful pleasure it created in abundance\, this concert was a powerful argument for our learning to think and talk purely in terms of ‘music’ and ‘musicians’ rather than jazz or classical music or\, indeed\, Brazilian music….” – Glyn Pursglove \n“Freestone has clearly listened widely\, but her musicality and broad experiences have stirred all that input into an imposingly original sound” – John Fordham\, The Guardian 4 * review \nHuw Warren – Piano\nTori Freestone – Flute\nYuri Goloubev – Bass\nAdriano Adewale – Percussion \nThe livestream will be broadcast on YouTube\, via a page available when you purchase a ticket through the link below. \nAll advance ticket buyers will receive an exclusive link to a video of the evening’s performance\, available for one month. \nShare this event

From beautifully crafted acoustic piano-centred albums “The Fall Dance” (2016) and “Hidden Seas” (2019)\, to her most recent release “Forest City” (2022)\, with its delicious infusion of electronic sounds\, Maria Chiara’s reputation is rapidly growing as both player and composer. \nJamie Leeming is fast becoming one of the UK’s most in demand ‘go to’ musicians\, appearing on recent top releases by drummer sensation Jas Kayser\, by SoundCellar favourite Rebecca Nash and in his regular guitarist role in Alfa Mist’s outstanding band\, appearing on all four of his albums.  Jamie also released his own excellent album ‘Resynthesis’ on Alfa’s label Sekito Records in 2022. \nThe latest EP by this collaboration\, “Dusk” (Cavalo Records)\, combines Argirò’s and Leeming’s signature blend of lo-fi\, electronica and cinematic jazz with vocals\, presenting a fresh and unique take on the singer/songwriter and spoken word genres. \nHaving worked together for many years\, including releasing the superb download-only album “Flow” in 2020 (Guardian Jazz Album of the month)\, Leeming says “we felt that aramii would be the perfect vehicle for the next chapter of our work together”. \nThe EP centres around the outstanding track “Dusk” (feat. Jono McCleery)\, with layers of moody piano\, shimmering guitars and dark synths creating an intimate sound world\, framing the deeply emotive vocal.  Argirò says “To me aramii is a perfect platform to explore and collaborate through intimate\, cinematic\, soul-influenced songs”. \nJoin us here at SoundCellar for this rare opportunity to catch the duo live\, during a small gap in their busy respective touring and recording schedules! \nMaria Chiara Argirò: Keyboards\, Electronics\nJamie Leeming: Guitar \nThe livestream will be broadcast on YouTube\, via a page available when you purchase a ticket through the link below. \nAll advance ticket buyers will receive an exclusive link to a video of the evening’s performance\, available for one week only. \nShare this event

SUMMARY:LIVESTREAM - SARSEN DRIFT (Rebecca Nash & Nick Walters)
DESCRIPTION:Bringing their new joint project Sarsen Drift to SoundCellar\, we are really excited to have the return of Rebecca Nash on keyboards\, alongside a debut appearance by Nick Walters on trumpet and electronics. \nClick here for tickets to attend the physical gig.\nLivestream Ticket link below \nWe were fortunate to feature Rebecca (Entropi; Sara Colman; Steve Banks; Iain Ballamy) and Nick (Ruby Rushton; Yussef Dayes; Florence & the Machine; Beats & Pieces Big Band) in one of our most memorable livestreams from a Birmingham studio during lockdown\, so we are particularly delighted to now present them ‘in-person’! \nThe pair have worked closely together for a number of years\, regularly appearing on each other’s albums and in different live configurations. They always had a plan to combine musical forces\, having individually notched up several acclaimed releases on major labels including Whirlwind Recordings\, 22a Records\, EFPI Records and D.O.T. over the last twelve years. \nThis new venture\, firmly rooted in their mutual appreciation of electronica and jazz\, began when they were asked by Jazz South in 2020 to produce a Radar Commission. Echoes of influences such as bands like Royksopp\, Aphex Twin\, and Lemon Jelly can be heard in the mix of their sound\, along with live improvisation. \nThe duo chose to explore the concept of ley-lines and their effect on the natural world\, incorporating musical samples taken from Avebury Stone Henge and its surrounding areas. Rebecca and Nick have since steadily continued to compose in the same trajectory\, writing material to incorporate live electronics and samples on stage\, alongside acoustic instruments. Their debut album The Sanctuary will be released on D.O.T. Records in 2024. \nRebecca and Nick will be joined for this Sarsen Drift performance by Nim Sadot on bass guitar and Andrew Lisle on drums. \n‘There’s a beauty to this recording that goes beyond any pigeon-holes of musical styles’\n‘A vibrant and invigorating landscape of sound’\nUK VIBE ★★★★★ 5/5 \n‘At the vanguard of innovative and compelling new music’\nDOWNBEAT MAGAZINE \n‘Amazing new album\, so good – another chapter to add to the phenomenal new British Jazz scene’\nGILLES PETERSON \nRebecca Nash: Keyboards\nNick Walters: Trumpet\, Electronics\nNim Sadot: Bass\nAndrew Lisle: Drums \nThe livestream will be broadcast on YouTube\, via a page available when you purchase a ticket through the link below. \nAll advance ticket buyers will receive an exclusive link to a video of the evening’s performance\, available for one month. \nShare this event
