SUMMARY:LIVESTREAM - DONOVAN HAFFNER QUARTET
DESCRIPTION:Stop Press: 2025 Parliamentary Jazz Awards ‘Best Newcomer’ was awarded to Donovan on 14th October! See him now\, while you can! \nMaking his Poole debut as band leader\, alto saxophonist\, Donovan Haffner could almost be described as one of the best kept secrets on the London jazz scene for the last 3 or 4 years\, but all that is set to change with the release of his debut album Alleviate. \nClick here for tickets to attend the physical gig.\nLivestream Ticket link below \nAged 11\, Donovan joined the highly respected Tomorrow’s Warriors Young Artist Development Programme and was mentored by Gary Crosby OBE\, Binker Golding\, and Alex Davis. He proved to be a stand-out talent and\, by the age of 18\, he was invited to tour Italy with multi-award-winning drummer Moses Boyd. \nSince then\, Donovan has played with Jay Phelps\, Charlie Stacey\, and Balimaya. He has also performed with the Danish jazz pianist/composer Rasmus Sorenson and was selected by Tony Kofi to be part of American jazz legend\, Charles Tolliver’s Big Band\, headlining at The Barbican as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival.  And Donovan is still very much part of the Tomorrow’s Warriors musical family\, performing with both Nu Civilisation Orchestra and JazzJamaica. \nHowever\, it is his growing reputation as a bandleader and composer in his own right that is set to see Donovan come to the attention of jazz fans across the country. \nIf you have already been lucky enough to catch Donovan play live in a venue (including London’s Ronnie Scott’s\, The Jazz Cafe\, and Pizza Express Live) or at a festival (We Out Here\, Love Supreme)\, then you will have been struck not just by the drive and sophistication of his playing\, but also how he interprets his own compositions. To see him leading his quintet is to go on a journey with him through the music he loves\, straight ahead and contemporary jazz – drawing on the inspiration of the musicians that have influenced him\, including Kenny Garrett\, Freddie Hubbard\, Immanuel Wilkins\, Joe Henderson\, Wayne Shorter\, and SoundCellar ‘legend’ Walter Smith III – but enhanced with his own distinctive compositional style. \nRecorded with his quintet\, Donovan’s debut album Alleviate is a vitally exciting contemporary jazz recording\, that reflects Donovan Haffner’s burgeoning talent in a glowing light. This essential body of work will undoubtedly position the young musician as a rising jazz star and one of 2025’s breakthrough artists. \n“Saxophonist Donovan Haffner’s debut LP\, Alleviate\, is an absolutely awesome debut and a really amazing release. I’ve watched his development for the last two or three years and he has blossomed into a really special musician” – Tony Minvielle\, writer & broadcaster JazzFM \n“A confident and impressive debut” **** – Eddie Myer\, Jazzwise magazine \n“There’s so much sincerity and gravity in what he plays\, and his unforced musicality really draws you in” – Soweto Kinch\, ‘Round Midnight\, BBC Radio 3 \nAbout Warriors Rise \nThis performance is part of Tomorrow’s Warriors’ Warriors Rise initiative\, which sees the acclaimed jazz talent development organisation support three emerging Warriors’ artists\, including Donovan\, providing tour planning and marketing mentoring. \nWarriors Rise is a PRS Foundation Talent Development Network Partner initiative supported by PPL. \nMore about Tomorrow’s Warriors \nFor over 30 years\, Tomorrow’s Warriors has played a vital role within its community and the wider music industry and has been credited with literally changing the face of UK jazz. \nFree access to Tomorrow’s Warriors artistic programme has proved crucial in nurturing the nascent talent and early careers of so many of the most exciting UK artists currently tearing up the international jazz scene including Mercury Prize 2023 recipients and BRIT Awards Best Group 2025 winners EZRA Collective\, Moses Boyd\, Nubya Garcia\, Shabaka Hutchings and Sons of Kemet\, ESKA\, Jason Yarde\, Denys Baptiste\, Robert Mitchell\, Soweto Kinch\, Shirley Tetteh\, Byron Wallen…the list goes on. \nA Black-founded and Black-led organisation\, Tomorrow’s Warriors offers a pioneering\, free to access\, comprehensive programme of learning and training which champions and supports young Black and female talent and those who come from challenging circumstances that would be a barrier to accessing opportunities to pursue a music career. \n“Tomorrow’s Warriors occupies a unique and vital space in our cultural landscape. Their work in helping positively shape future generations is of critical importance especially with the tribulations we currently face. Please keep supporting – each one\, teach one!” Gilles Peterson \nDonovan Haffner: Alto Sax\nFrancisco Garcia De-Paredes: Guitar\nHarry Pearce: Bass\nLuke McCarthy: Drums \nThe livestream will be broadcast on YouTube\, via a page available when you purchase a ticket through the link below. \nAll advance ticket buyers will receive an exclusive link to a video of the evening’s performance\, available for one month. \nShare this event

SUMMARY:LIVESTREAM - LEVY/ROBSON INTERNATIONAL QUARTET
DESCRIPTION:Formed in NYC in 2017\, US saxophonist JED LEVY and British guitarist PHIL ROBSON bring their international quartet to SoundCellar\, featuring Italian drummer ROBERTO GATTO and British bassist MARK HODGSON. Their innovative\, melodic jazz blends tradition with contemporary grooves\, captivating audiences at iconic venues worldwide. \nClick here for tickets to attend the physical gig.\nLivestream Ticket link below \nThis musical partnership was formed in New York City in 2017 between the highly acclaimed US saxophonist JED LEVY (Jaki Byard\, Jack McDu/\, Mike Clark\, Tom Harrell etc) and multi-award-winning UK born guitarist PHIL ROBSON (Mark Turner\, David Liebman\, Billy Hart\, Partisans\, etc)\, who was living in NYC at the time. The American quartet featuring Peter Slavov and Clarence Penn quickly began to become a regular feature in the city’s iconic venues such as Smalls\, Birdland\, 55 Bar etc\, as well as touring in the UK\, Germany\, Spain\, Ireland\, Northern California and more. Robson relocated to Ireland in 2020\, but since that time the collaboration has continued with various European incarnations of the band. \nThe current line-up features one of Europe’s most celebrated drummers\, from Rome\, ROBERTO GATTO (Freddie Hubbard\, John Scofield\, Joe Zawinul\, Michael Brecker\, etc) and the incredible UK bassist MARK HODGSON (Randy Brecker\, Cedar Walton\, Eddie Henderson\, Greg Osby\, etc) who is one of the most in demand bassists on the contemporary jazz scene today. \nThe quartet plays original music penned by both Levy and Robson. The music is innovative and contemporary whilst remaining highly melodic and groovy\, with a strong sense of tradition mixed in with the diverse characteristics of each composer. \n“This was high-powered jazz\, not by dint of frenetic pace\, volume or assertiveness but by the beauty and coherence of the quartet sound that was at once polished but fresh and lively. That’s a difficult poise to strike\, even for musicians as able as these\, yet for all that they were fully engaged\, each seemed entirely in his element.” The Whitman Review of Wakefield Jazz Concert \n“Added to the warmth of his sound and excellent command of the instrument\, Levy is an impressive package deserving wider international recognition. Phil Robson is already gaining wider international recognition\, as witnessed by the admiring comments on his playing from Peter Bernstein and Wayne Krantz to be found on his website. His great fluidity and fleet inventiveness were\, as ever\, balm for the ears.” London Jazz News \nJed Levy: Sax\nPhil Robson: Guitar\nMark Hodgson: Bass\nRoberto Gatto: Drums \nThe livestream will be broadcast on YouTube\, via a page available when you purchase a ticket through the link below. \nAll advance ticket buyers will receive an exclusive link to a video of the evening’s performance\, available for one month. \nShare this event

DESCRIPTION:Guitarist and composer Harry Christelis and his quartet perform music from Preserving Fictions\, a captivating blend of jazz\, folk\, and ambient soundscapes. Expect inventive interplay\, haunting beauty\, and deep emotional resonance from this remarkable group of musicians.\n \nClick here for tickets to attend the physical gig.\nLivestream Ticket link below \nGuitarist and composer Harry Christelis presents his new album\, Preserving Fictions — an exploration of how music and art can serve as a means to preserve and document the seeming truths we see\, hear\, feel\, and experience every day. This record\, a continuation and development of his 2025 EP Half Truths (recorded during the same session)\, sees Christelis delve deeper into a sound world that has become synonymous with his name\, fusing elements of jazz and folk traditions with ambient drones and delicate electronic textures to create a truly immersive listening experience. \nFeaturing his long-standing quartet of Christos Stylianides (trumpet/effects)\, Andrea Di Biase (double bass/synth)\, and Dave Storey (drums)\, the highly acclaimed musicians constantly break free from their traditional roles within the jazz idiom. Across the adventurous 58-minute album\, the listener is taken on a journey that moves through dreamy psychedelic trips\, expansive soundscapes\, delicate moments of intimacy\, and furious bursts of energy — all seamlessly bound by a tone that holds sombre and hopeful feelings in harmonious equilibrium. \n“Compelling ambient music pitched somewhere between In A Silent Way-era Miles Davis and late-era Talk Talk” – The Guardian \n“Music with a serene beauty” – Kevin Le Gendre\, BBC Radio 3 \n“Breathy and textural tones that perfectly create a sense of space and memory” – Soweto Kinch\, BBC Radio 3 \nHarry Christelis: guitar\nGeorge Crowley: tenor saxophone/effects\nAndrea Di Biase: double bass/synth\nDave Storey: drums \nThe livestream will be broadcast on YouTube\, via a page available when you purchase a ticket through the link below. \nAll advance ticket buyers will receive an exclusive link to a video of the evening’s performance\, available for one month. \nShare this event

SUMMARY:LIVESTREAM - MALI SHEARD'S HOMESTEAD
DESCRIPTION:SoundCellar and Tomorrow’s Warriors present MALI SHEARD’S HOMESTEAD. Undoubtedly destined to become stars of the future\, we welcome alto/soprano saxophonist Mali Sheard and her Homestead quintet to Poole\, marking our second collaboration with the award-winning artist development organisation Tomorrow’s Warriors. \nClick here for tickets to attend the physical gig.\nLivestream Ticket link below \nAgain featuring outstanding young musicians\, this quintet made an extremely strong impression on members of the SoundCellar team at both the We Out Here and London Jazz Festivals in 2025. \nBlending the lyricism of folk traditions with the rhythmic drive of contemporary jazz\, Mali Sheard is a young saxophonist and composer whose music is both evocative and adventurous. This storytelling approach gives her music a sense of warmth\, intimacy\, and cinematic scope. \nMali met her bandmates – Keira Chakraborty\, Ky Osborne\, George Balmont and Luke McCarthy (seen at SoundCellar with Donovan Haffner last November)\, through Tomorrow’s Warriors and the Royal Academy of Music\, forming a compelling ensemble. \nWith their debut recording forthcoming\, Mali Sheard and her quintet continue to push boundaries\, creating music that is heartfelt\, imaginative\, and distinctly their own – a sound poised to leave a lasting mark on the UK jazz scene. \nABOUT TOMORROW’S WARRIORS\nIf you know your UK jazz\, then you probably already know Tomorrow’s Warriors.
