DESCRIPTION:SoundCellar are delighted to join forces again with the Bournemouth Brewery  to present the Pete Case Quartet featuring world-class guitarist Paul Stacey. \nThis gig will take place at the Bournemouth Brewery\,\n41-43 Poole Hill\, Bournemouth BH2 5PW. \nFree admission (but cash and card donations most welcome!) \nPianist Pete Case is a homegrown Bournemouth musician who began playing piano at the age of four. He befriended and played with Paul Stacey and his twin brother Jeremy when they were teenagers. They all linked up with bassist Pat Davey many years later to work in a local band called Zen. After many years away from his hometown pursuing an academic career\, Pete and his family moved back to the Bournemouth area a couple of years ago. Since then he’s been enjoying reconnecting with the local jazz scene. He can be seen performing regularly with Rob Palmer’s SoundCellar 5\, Andy Urquhart’s Fusion5 and his own trio featuring Sagat Guirey on guitar and Pete Maxfield on bass. \nPaul Stacey is a guitarist\, producer\, mixer and actor. He grew up in Poole Dorset. At An early age\, he started learning piano then later took up guitar. In the ‘70s Paul moved to London to attend drama school and began spending nights playing in London jazz clubs. Paul was a member of NYJO in the ‘80s and The Lemon Trees with Guy Chambers in the ’90s. He worked for many years with Oasis\, the Black Crowes and Noel Gallagher. Artists he has recorded\, produced\, mixed and/or toured with include: Oasis\, Black Crowes\, Tom Jones\, Madonna\, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds\, Robert Fripp\, Toyah\, Steven Wilson\, Tal Wilkenfeld\, The Kooks\, The Noisettes\, The Finn Brothers (Neil & Tim Finn from Crowded House and Split Enz)\, Morcheeba\, Shirley Bassey\, UNKLE\, Omar\, Jamie Cullum\, KT Tunstall\, Beverly Knight\, Eddie Reader\, Elkie Brookes\, Swing Out Sister\, Robbie Williams\, Scott Mckeon\, Paul Young\, Marti Pellow\, Alfie Boe\, Tori Amos\, and many others. His jazz credits include: Kurt Rosenwinkel\, Pedro Martins\, Wayne Krantz\, Dave Binney\, Jamie Murray\, Laurence Cottle\, David Preston\, Jason Rebello\, Pino Palladino\, Tommy Smith\, Mornington Locket\, Mark Fletcher\, Gary Husband\, Rob Malarkey\, Clare Martin\, Iain Ballamy\, Jim Mullen\, Bobby Wellins and Kenny Wheeler. \nPat Davey has played bass guitar for over 45 years covering many genres and touring in the UK and worldwide with various artists. From early days with The Tom Robinson Band to The Blues Brothers in The West End and more recently touring with Paul Young\, Jim Cregan\, Kenney Jones & Robert Hart and Terry Reid. Pat was also Musical Supervisor/MD for All Or Nothing The Musical about the life and times of 60’s iconic band The Small Faces. \nDrummer Matthew Skeaping has been a working jazz musician since his late teens. Largely self taught\, with no formal training\, he nevertheless found his way into good musical company at an early age\, playing with the likes of Phil Robson\, Dudu Pukwana\, Robin Aspland\, Salena Jones\, and Claire Martin.  In 2001\, Matt recorded an album of his original jazz compositions with Liam Noble and Phil Robson. Besides his notable experience as session musician as well as being a skilled composer and arranger\, Davey is a passionate educator\, tutoring at the British & Irish Modern Music Institute in London (BIMM) and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music. \nDanish guitarist Kristian Borring is cited to be “a guitarist of enormous technical ability who utilizes his considerable gifts thoughtfully and tastefully\, a highly accomplished guitarist and composer” (The Jazz Mann\, UK). On graduating from Guildhall School of Music in London (2006)\, he cemented his name on the UK scene a leader and sideman alike and performed throughout Europe and Australia. He regularly collaborates with ensembles as diverse as the Frankfurt Radio Big Band and the London Sinfonietta. He is best known for his work with the award-winning bands Phronesis and the Marius Neset Quintet\, as well as collaborations with numerous other artists\, including Hermeto Pascoal\, Kenny Wheeler and Gilad Hekselman. Ivo’s music is characterised by a stunning mix of virtuosity\, sophistication\, and playfulness – his performances are known for their dynamic energy and emotional depth. His ninth album under his own name “Live at Turner Sims” was released on Whirlwind Recordings in September 2023. In 2023 he was also made ‘artist-in-residence’ with the Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra. \nConor Chaplin studied at Trinity College of Music in Greenwich under the tutelage of Simon Purcell\, Steve Watts\, and others. Also formative in his education were the late great composer and educator Martin Read at Alton College in Hampshire\, and his time as part of Surrey County and National Youth Jazz Orchestras. He is currently working mainly with Norwegian saxophone virtuoso Marius Neset\, rising star Emma Rawicz\, Iiro Rantala\, Laura Jurd’s Mercury Prize-nominated group Dinosaur\, pianist Gwilym Simcock\, and guitarist Tom Ollendorff. He has had the pleasure of touring extensively throughout the UK\, North America\, Europe and Asia and has been fortunate to perform with such varied artists as Jacob Collier\, Harold Mabern\, George Garzone\, Jeff Ballard and Jeff Hamilton. \nMarc Michel is a French Drummer\, guitarist\, composer\, percussionist\, multi-instrumentalist and arranger. After he graduated in classical percussion\, chamber music\, music theory\, classical composition and jazz in conservatoires (Paris\, Lyon)\, he obtained his masters degree in jazz performance at the Royal Academy of Music of London. He performed and recorded with some of the greatest jazz artists of his time such as Kurt Rosenwinkel\, Ben Wendel\, Seamus Blake\, Chris\nCheek\, Mike Moreno\, Gilad Hekselman\, Doug Weiss\, Jesse Van Ruller and many more. He has performed at festivals such as Tokyo Jazz Festival\, London Jazz Festival and Love Supreme most recently. Taking inspiration from Chick Corea’s ‘Return To Forever’ and Keith Jarrett’s ‘European Quartet’\, Tomorrow’s New Quartet has been thrilling audiences all over the country with its engaging brand of modern jazz. \nLed by drummer / composer Rod Oughton\, the band released its debut album ‘All Together\, Now!’ on the Ubuntu Music label in 2022. Following a successful launch tour\, which culminated in a sold-out show at Pizza Express Dean Street\, the album was named ‘Editor’s Choice’ by Jazzwise Magazine and dubbed ‘very fresh’ by Jumoké Fashola on BBC Radio 3. \nThe band features two more young heavyweights from the next generation of British jazz\, namely Deschanel Gordon on piano and Flo Moore on electric bass. \nFor their performance at SoundCellar\, we are especially delighted that very special guest Ben van Gelder will be joining the band.  Van Gelder is regarded internationally as a leading authority on the alto saxophone.  Peers and critics alike praise him for his unique sound\, lyricism and personal approach to composition. Van Gelder moved to New York when he was seventeen and spent a decade collaborating and studying with some of the most progressive artists in the world. His teachers included Guillermo Klein\, Jason Moran and Lee Konitz. DESCRIPTION:  \nFor our next SoundCellar – curated Synergy Session\, we have brought together the amazing pairing of Trish Clowes and Mike Outram\, plus a killer rhythm section of Calum Gourlay and Joel Barford! \n \nThis gig will take place at The Grasshopper\,\n139 – 141 Bournemouth Rd\, Poole BH14 9HT. \nPlease note: If parking in either of the car parks at The Grasshopper\, you must register your vehicle on one of the dedicated terminals at the bar or in the function room. \nTicket link below \nIncredibly\, it has been over 12 years since composer and saxophonist extraordinaire Trish Clowes played at SoundCellar\, so we are particularly delighted to see her return. Although they play together very occasionally\, we are especially excited to team Trish up with one of SoundCellar’s most respected guitarists Mike Outram\, for this special evening here in Poole. \nTrish Clowes has released eight albums as leader and heads up her acclaimed band My Iris.  In addition\, she recently released a duo album ‘Journey To Where’ in 2024 with her long-time colleague\, SoundCellar regular Ross Stanley. \nTrish has also written for orchestras and larger ensembles\, such as a recent commission to compose and arrange for the famous NDR Big Band\, for a series of concerts in Germany in November 2024.  Dr Trish Clowes is Jazz Saxophone Professor at the Royal Academy of Music and an Associate Artist at London’s Wigmore Hall. \n“…one of the most agile and original jugglers of improv and adventurous composition to have appeared in the UK in recent times” (The Guardian) \nMike Outram needs little introduction to SoundCellar audiences\, having played here many times in many different combinations over the years. He always proves to be a popular choice with our regular patrons\, because they recognise that he is simply one of the best guitarists out there!  He has played music all over the world & recorded around 100 albums with people like Steven Wilson\, Tim Garland\, Theo Travis\, Robert Fripp\, Jeremy Stacey\, Cory Wong\, Nikki Iles and many others. \nAs well as leading and recording with his own ensembles\, bassist Calum Gourlay has played and recorded with amazing artists such as Tommy Smith\, Kit Downes\, Kurt Elling\, Richard Rodney Bennett\, Arild Andersen\, Makoto Ozone and others. He last played at SoundCellar with Nick Costley-White back in 2018\, so we are delighted to have him return. \nTop drummer Joel Barford will be making his SoundCellar debut.  Joel has played with many well known artists such as Alfie Boe\, Michael Ball\, Roy Wood and Liane Carroll\, as well as with SoundCellar ‘alumni’ such as Nigel Price\, Jim Mullen\, Laurence Cottle\, Dave O’Higgins\, Alex Hitchcock\, Tom Ollendorff and Alex Garnett. The resultant repertoire is a combination of scripted forms and improvised sections\, constantly entwining melodic compositions and experimental sonic escapades. \nThe band’s recent album ”(un)balanced”\, featuring saxophonist Mark Lockheart\, tells the story of seeking balance in today’s reality\, manoeuvring through the overwhelming deluge of information and striving to discover inspiration in everyday routine. We are very excited that SoundCellar favourite Mark will be appearing with Jakub and the band at The Grasshopper. \nThe quintet has performed at major UK jazz venues\, including Vortex Jazz Club\, Pizza Express Live\, 606 Club\, receiving favourable reviews from European press outlets such as UK Jazz News and Jazz Forum. \n“Jakub’s original compositions\, his own playing and that of this fabulous band were also appropriately full of optimism and the promise of good days to come. Nights like this reassure us that the future of jazz is in safe hands.” – UK Jazz News \nJakub Klimiuk is a Polish jazz guitarist and composer based in London. Throughout the years\, he has recorded and shared the stage with the likes of Jonas Kullhammar\, John Horler\, Dave O’Higgins\, Krystyna Stańko and of course Mark Lockheart\, working with both UK-based and international projects.  Jakub first made his mark on the British jazz scene at the EFG London Jazz Festival with his original project.  He is an adventurous composer\, focused on experimenting with musical forms and implementing compositional techniques derived from contemporary classical music into jazz. His original compositions are a unique combination of arranged structures\, often based on counterpoints\, and fully improvised sections. DESCRIPTION:SoundCellar are delighted to join forces with the Triangle Taproom to present the vibrant African influenced jazz of Thokozile. \nThis gig will take place at the Triangle Taproom\,\n41-43 Poole Hill\, Bournemouth BH2 5PW. \nFree admission\n \nThokozile were formed on the back of a British Council music exchange back to South Africa in 2010. In 2024 performed a sold out gig at the Lighthouse Poole to celebrate the release of their long awaited eponymous debut album. The band have built up a loyal following and are bringing to the Triangle Taproom their trademark melodic saxophone and jangly guitars\, along with a kicking rhythm section.
