SUMMARY:IVO NEAME (piano) and ANT LAW (guitar)
DESCRIPTION:In Our Own Space – Music and Conversation with IVO NEAME and ANT LAW – Thurs 17th Sept\nWe are extremely pleased to be able to welcome back one of SoundCellar’s more frequent and popular visitors\, award-winning pianist and composer IVO NEAME\, together with another returning SoundCellar favourite\, guitarist ANT LAW\, for this unique duo performance as part of our SoundCellar presents: In Our Own Space – Music and Conversation series.\nIVO is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist\, composer and arranger. In addition to leading his own bands\, he is a vital cog in several of European jazz’s most forward-looking groups including Phronesis and the Marius Neset Quintet. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music and is now an Associate of that revered body. Since completing his studies there in 2003\, he has performed and recorded with highly esteemed musicians at home and abroad such as David Binney\, Kenny Wheeler and Hermeto Pascoal. He has also played on more than 50 albums as a sideman and a leader. \nHis fifth album under his own name “Moksha”\, released on Edition Records in 2018\, has received rave reviews and earlier this year he released the album “Multiverse” as a duo with yet another SoundCellar favourite\, percussionist and vibes player Jim Hart\, again on Edition Records. \n(Multiverse is) “…very cool\, daring and technically dazzling. I’ve played it many times already\, and every time I hear something new and beautiful.” London Jazz News \nIvo has a whole host of awards and honours to his name\, a snapshot of which include:\nUK Jazz Instrumentalist of the year 2012 (nominated) Jazz FM Awards\nJazz Ensemble of the year 2017 (Phronesis) Parliamentary Jazz Awards\nJazz Composition for Small Ensemble 2018 (nominated) BASCA Composer Awards \nIn addition to being an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music\, Ivo is also an Associate Member of PRS and a Professor in Jazz Piano at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. \nDescribed as “an innovator” by the Guardian\, ANT lives in London and leads his own group in which Ivo plays piano. In 2013 Ant’s debut ‘Entanglement’ was released to great acclaim\, followed by ‘Zero Sum World’ (2015) and ‘Life I Know’ in 2018. This release was very warmly received by the press\, receiving 5 star reviews\, making numerous “best of 2018″ lists\, receiving airplay in the UK\, Europe\, Australia\, and hundreds of thousands of plays (and counting) on Spotify. It is being described as “career-defining”. The next chapter has just begun with “The Sleeper Wakes” for Edition Records which was released on July 24th. This will be the first time some of this music has been performed since the release. \n“What a game changer Law can be” The Guardian \nAnt plays in Tim Garland’s band with Jason Rebello & Asaf Sirkis\, featuring on albums ‘Songs To The North Sky’\, ‘Return To The Fire’ & ‘ONE’ which was shortlisted for a Grammy and won the Jazzwise Best Album award. Ant is the “L” in Trio HLK who record/tour with Dame Evelyn Glennie. He has worked with other notables Cory Henry\, Thomas Gould and is featured from time to time in “Total Guitar”\, “Guitar Techniques” & “Guitarist” magazines. In the latter he recently made a list of “10 Astounding Virtuosos”. Ant has an interest in Physics\, which he read as a scholar at Edinburgh University. \nDon’t miss Ivo and Ant bringing us this exclusive performance from their ‘space’\, directly into our (your) ‘space’ as part of our ongoing SoundCellar presents: In Our Own Space – Music and Conversation series. \nNote: There is an additional 90p admin charge by Eventbrite \nShare this event

SUMMARY:GLENN ZALESKI (piano)
DESCRIPTION:In Our Own Space – Music and Conversation with GLENN ZALESKI – Thurs 24th Sept\n\nConsidering his first ever gig in the UK was at SoundCellar with Phil Donkin\, Ben Wendel and James Maddren back in 2015\, we are particularly pleased to welcome back one of the most in-demand pianists on the New York City jazz scene\, GLENN ZALESKI\, to perform in one of our SoundCellar presents: In Our Own Space – Music and Conversation events. \nOriginally from Boylston\, MA and now a resident of New York\, Glenn has made a name for himself playing with the likes of Ravi Coltrane\, Lage Lund and SoundCellar 2019 visitor Ari Hoenig. In 2011\, he was a semi-finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition\, as well as a finalist for the 2011 APA Cole Porter Fellowship in Jazz. He attended the Brubeck Institute Fellowship program in Stockton\, CA from 2005-2007\, and then finished his undergraduate studies at The New School in 2009.\nGlenn has released two popular albums with his long-standing co-led trio\, Stranahan/Zaleski/Rosato: “Limitless” (Capri\, 2013) and “Anticipation” (Capri\, 2011)\, as well as a duo record with his brother\, saxophonist Mark Zaleski (“Duet Suite”\, 2010). The trio more recently released “Live at Jazz Standard” (Capri 2019)\, recorded from a live set at the legendary NYC club.\nOne year earlier in 2018\, “Solo Vol. 1” was released – his first solo piano album\, as well as the first release from his own label Stark Terrace Music. \nHis debut album in his own name “My Ideal” was released in March 2015 (Sunnyside Records)\, and received critical acclaim: Downbeat Magazine named it “sublime” and Jazz Times called it “…an engaging set by a talent worth watching”.\nIn 2017 he released his second album for Sunnyside Records\, “Fellowship”\, prompting All About Jazz to note: “Glenn Zaleski has quickly become one of the most important pianists of his generation and it’s easy to see why.” \nHis new quintet album\, “The Question”\, has just been released this July\, again on Sunnyside Records and is already receiving reviews such as:\n“With a genuine aptitude to extract beauty and joy from his playing\, Zaleski is a modern pianist who never loses touch with the jazz tradition” Jazz Trail\n\nWe strongly recommend you catch Glenn performing in another of our Trans-Atlantic events\, straight from his home in New York City\, as one of our SoundCellar presents: In Our Own Space – Music and Conversation artists.\n\nAll tickets purchased will also allow exclusive access to a video recording of the performance for one month afterwards. This will provide those who join us on the night with the opportunity to relive the whole event and also give those who cannot make it on the night\, the chance to watch it all later.\n\nNote: There is an additional 80p admin charge by Eventbrite\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShare this event
