SUMMARY:JON COWHERD (piano)
DESCRIPTION:We have another US star musician for our next In Our Own Space – Music and Conversation performance\, when we welcome the superb piano/keyboard player Jon Cowherd\, from a studio in New York. \nTicket link at bottom of page \nThe Kentucky-raised\, New Orleans-schooled\, New York-based Jon Cowherd is best known for his long-running partnership with drummer/bandleader Brian Blade\, with whom he co-founded Brian Blade and the Fellowship Band\, whose acclaimed\, influential albums showcase Cowherd’s stellar keyboard work and singular compositional skills. SoundCellar’s Rob and John were privileged to see the Fellowship perform relatively early in its history\, at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Den Hague back in 1998 and both remember the gig as an extremely special musical event. \nJon has also recorded two albums under his own name and toured with his band\, the Mercy Project\, recording with such jazz luminaries as Bill Frisell\, John Patitucci\, Tony Scherr and this March’s ‘In Our Own Space’ star guitarist Steve Cardenas. \nJon has worked extensively with a broad array of players and singers from the jazz\, pop and rock worlds\, including Brandi Carlile\, Norah Jones\, Glen Hansard\, Cassandra Wilson\, Meshell N’dgeocello\, kd Lang\, Terri Lyne Carrington\, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Lizz Wright. In addition\, he has worked with 2011 SoundCellar legend Alicia Olatuja and with 2015 SoundCellar icon Becca Stevens\, who we hope by the time you watch Jon’s performance\, you will have seen perform for us a second time around\, for an ‘In Our Own Space’ livestream just two weeks earlier. \nAs you will have deduced\, if you didn’t already know it\, Jon is regarded as one of the best keyboard players in the world\, so make sure you join us for SoundCellar Presents: In Our Own Space: Music and Conversation with Jon Cowherd on Sunday 6th June. \nAll tickets purchased will also allow exclusive access to a video recording of the performance for one month afterwards. This will provide those who join us on the night with the opportunity to relive the whole event and also give those who cannot make it on the night\, the chance to watch it all later. A link to the video will be emailed around 2-3 days after the performance. \nShare this event

SUMMARY:NIGEL PRICE (guitar)
DESCRIPTION:Next up for our In Our Own Space – Music and Conversation series\, we present the virtual return to SoundCellar of guitarist NIGEL PRICE. Nigel has played at SoundCellar on a number of occasions and we are now really looking forward to a solo performance from him\, as well as to his post-gig ‘chat’\, where we are pretty certain he will be almost as entertaining as he’ll be with his guitar playing! \nTicket link at bottom of page \nNigel is one of the most highly regarded and in demand guitarists on the UK jazz scene today.  He spent three years with UK funk legends – the James Taylor Quartet\, recording 5 albums with them\, and was voted No.1 in the 2016 British Jazz Awards for “best guitarist”.  He is also a regular performer at Ronnie Scott’s\, where he’s played around 600 times to date! \nNigel’s blend of flowing bebop lines and deep blues feeling has made him popular with jazz\, blues and funk audiences across the World. He has played on more than 50 albums by other artists and as a leader\, Nigel will release his 10th album in early June\, a couple of weeks before this SoundCellar performance. \nCalled Wes Reimagined\, the album features his organ trio\, including SoundCellar favourite Ross Stanley and a number of guest musicians including Nigel’s regular guest saxophonist Vasilis Xenopoulos (who has played with him on two occasions at the cellar). The album is a collection of Wes Montgomery’s timeless tunes\, respectfully reinterpreted. Nigel comments\, “I haven’t tried to reinvent the wheel in any way – it’s just a kind of “what if?””. The great man’s tunes are played in the same spirit but with a little look at what might have been! \n“For me\, this is how jazz should be; communicative and inclusive. Jazz performed this way feels like a gift…” ‘Wes Reimagined’ review London Jazz News \n“Nigel Price is probably the most dynamic and gifted guitarist on the British jazz scene today….”  All About Jazz \nMake sure you join us for SoundCellar Presents: In Our Own Space: Music and Conversation with NIGEL PRICE \nAll tickets purchased will also allow exclusive access to a video recording of the performance for one month afterwards. This will provide those who join us on the night with the opportunity to relive the whole event and also give those who cannot make it on the night\, the chance to watch it all later.
