SUMMARY:ECHO ENGINE with THEO TRAVIS
DESCRIPTION:Ten years since the release of their album ‘Windjammer’ the keyboards/guitar/electronics trio Echo Engine reunite with special guest Theo Travis on saxes and flute. Echo Engine’s influences range from early Weather Report to ECM-style electronica (Nils Petter Molvaer\, Eivind Aarset etc.) to Aphex Twin ambient grooves. \nThis gig will take place at The Grasshopper\,\n139 – 141 Bournemouth Rd\, Poole BH14 9HT. \nPlease note: If parking in either of the car parks at The Grasshopper\, you must register your vehicle on one of the dedicated terminals at the bar or in the function room. \nTicket link below \nEcho Engine are an ambient/groove/electronica improv trio formed by keyboardist Daniel Biro\, groove- generator/sonic artist Adrian Newton and guitarist Rob Palmer. \nBiro and Palmer have been working together for many years\, playing live regularly and releasing ‘The Long Journey Home’ album (Sargasso Records) in 2004\, Newton joined them and\, inspired by his fresh approach to live electronics and groove creation\, the trio decided to formalise their collaboration under the Echo Engine banner. \nAs well as being a stand-alone outfit\, the idea behind Echo Engine was to allow for special guests to expand the trio’s sonic palette. First on the list was sax/flute player Theo Travis\, best known for his collaborations with Robert Fripp\, David Sylvian\, Steven Wilson\, Gong and Soft Machine. His use of live electronic processors and loopers\, to create swirling textures\, was well suited to the band’s soundscapey ethos. Two performances with Travis at the SoundCellar were recorded and provided the raw materials for their debut album in ‘Windjammer’ in 2014. The trio released the follow up album ‘I’ll Be Here’ in 2019 which featured guest Jon Lloyd on sax and bass clarinet. \nTheo Travis: saxophones\, flutes\nDaniel Biro: keyboards\nAdrian Newton: electronics/beats\nRob Palmer: guitar/electronics \nEntry is £17.50 (no booking fee) in advance through the below link\, or £20 on the door (cash or card). \nAll advance ticket buyers will receive an exclusive link to a video of the evening’s performance\, available for one month. \nShare this event
