SUMMARY:TOM OLLENDORFF TRIO
DESCRIPTION:London-based guitarist TOM OLLENDORFF is fast becoming one of the best-known young guitarists on the international jazz scene. He returns to SoundCellar with acclaimed bassist VIKTOR NYBERG and the outstanding Italian drummer FRANCESCO CINIGLIO. \n \nThis gig will take place at The Grasshopper\,\n139 – 141 Bournemouth Rd\, Poole BH14 9HT. \nPlease note: If parking in either of the car parks at The Grasshopper\, you must register your vehicle on one of the dedicated terminals at the bar or in the function room. \nTicket link below \nThis autumn guitarist Tom Ollendorff embarks on a world tour with his group to promote the release of his highly anticipated album ‘Atlantic Angels’. Tom has undoubtedly become one of the most exciting talents to emerge from the United Kingdom in recent times. He combines a lyrical sensibility with an elegant use of space and silence and a stunning rhythmic ease which have forged a seductive sound that adds to his appeal. \nTom will be performing with two of Europe’s finest musicians\, drummer Francesco Ciniglio (Wynton Marsalis\, Aaron Parks) and bassist Victor Nyberg. \nHis debut album A Song For You (2021) received international acclaim\, followed by Open House (2023)\, featuring his long-term trio and saxophonist Ben Wendel. That same year\, he also released Enchanted\, a co-led project with drummer Ari Hoenig. In 2024\, his first solo album\, Solo Volume 1\, was released on Ubuntu Records\, alongside solo performances at major festivals. \nKnown for his virtuosic technique and refined harmonic style\, Tom has gained recognition both as a performer and composer. His solo guitar book Etudes (Faber Music) has reached audiences worldwide. Tom has been fortunate to work extensively as a sideman with a wide range of artists including Ari Hoenig\, Bill McHenry\, Geoff Simkins\, Aaron Parks\, Huw Warren\, Tim Garland\, Nitai Hershkovits\, Ben Wendel and The Fresh Sound Ensemble. \nTom Ollendorff often reclaims jazz guitar-playing’s classic past\, but he also understands its fast-changing present (The Guardian) \n‘Meticulous eloquence’ (The Guardian) \nTom Ollendorff is making his quiet way towards ubiquity\, all in the most charmingly well-manicured way imaginable. His appeal is not hard to understand: a combination of fearsome musical chops\, ambitiously sophisticated compositional sensibility and an unashamedly tuneful upbeat musical personality is very hard to resist. (Jazzwise) \nTom Ollendorff: guitar\nVictor Nyberg: bass\nFrancesco Ciniglio: drums \nEntry is £17.50 (no booking fee) in advance through the below link\, or £20 on the door (cash or card). \nShare this event
