About us

Having become a firmly established setup in the beautiful seaside setting of Poole in Dorset, SoundCellar began life in 2010 as the brainchild of musician and avid music lover Rob Palmer. After negotiating the use of an ideal ‘space’ in the form of the atmospheric cellar under an old traditional public house The Blue Boar, close to the harbour and the town centre of Poole, Rob very quickly established the venue as somewhere that musicians and audiences alike, were able to come together to enjoy a great live music experience on a regular basis. SoundCellar prides itself on presenting a concert-like experience in an informal setting with great acoustics and an attentive and appreciative audience.

Over the intervening years, Rob, aided more recently by friends John Ferguson and Chris Jakob, has built up a substantial reputation that has led to SoundCellar becoming one of the most in-demand places in the UK for top performers across the jazz and other contemporary music genres to play in, whether in its regular venue, in alternative ‘pop-up’ sites, or via its more recent online In Our Own Space™ series.

Some of the artists who have performed at SoundCellar during its 12+ years include Snarky Puppy/David Crosby/Jacob Collier collaborator BECCA STEVENS, Santana/Miles Davis bassist BENNY RIETVELD, Sting/Jeff Beck keyboard player JASON REBELLO, Mercury Prize nominee LAURA JURD, NYC based contemporary jazz giants MATTHEW STEVENS, WALTER SMITH III, ARI HOENIG, BEN WENDEL, WILL VINSON, COLIN STRANAHAN, GLENN ZALESKI and PATRICK CORNELIUS, Dutch jazz guitar icon JESSE VAN RULLER, Laura Mvula/Randy Brecker keyboard player OLI ROCKBERGER, Dave Gilmour/Robert Fripp/Steven Wilson saxophonist THEO TRAVIS, Brooklyn based folk duo ROBINSON & ROHE, New York based guitarist/vocalist ALICYN YAFFEE, Ian Dury/Pink Floyd saxophonist GILAD ATZMON, King Crimson/Sheryl Crow/High Flying Birds drummer JEREMY STACEY, The Black Crowes/Oasis/Finn Bros guitarist PAUL STACEY, plus the very best in British jazz – PHIL ROBSON, ALICE ZAWADZKI, EMMA RAWICZ, ROB LUFT, JIM MULLEN, IVO NEAME, ALAN BARNES, JULIAN SIEGEL, LIAM NOBLE, MARTIN SPEAKE, KIT DOWNES, ROGER BEAUJOLAIS, NIGEL PRICE, DAVE NEWTON, PHIL DONKIN, PAUL BOOTH, MIKE OUTRAM, MICHAEL JANISCH, TRISH CLOWES, HENRY LOWTHER, JOHN LAW, DYLAN HOWE, NICOLAS MEIER, ASAF SIRKIS, DAVE O’HIGGINS, GARETH LOCKRANE and many others.
