DEE BYRNE’S ‘OUTLINES’

It’s been nine years since we last saw saxophonist Dee Byrne at SoundCellar with her then quintet Entropi, so we are delighted to host her again, this time returning to us with her sextet project ‘Outlines’.

139 – 141 Bournemouth Rd, Poole BH14 9HT.

Dee Byrne is a saxophonist, composer and improviser with an interest in jazz and experimental music. She collaborates with artists from the UK and Europe who occupy the area of contemporary jazz, avant-garde and free improvisation, notably European Quintet Ydivide, Loz Speyer’s Inner Space, Rebecca Nash’s Redefining Element 78 and UK/Swiss band MoonMot.

Dee released her third album as bandleader in June 2023 (Whirlwind Recordings) with radio play on Jazz FM and BBC Radio 3 amongst others, Spotify streams totalling 35K, and chosen as ‘Best Jazz on Bandcamp’ in July 2023.

OUTLINES features Dee’s original compositions that evolved out of a creative experiment: introducing visual art into her composition practice. Out of this, short musical sketches emerged that stood alone as artistic statements. These short statements are ‘Outlines’ – a springboard for this dynamic ensemble to go in new, exciting directions every time.

The excellent ‘Outlines’ band features many musicians familiar to SoundCellar audiences, including Nick Malcolm, Olie Brice and Rebecca Nash, who have all led ensembles under their own names for us in the past.
