Beware of the Bear is the brainchild of multi-award-winning UK saxophonist Phil Meadows. The project is a showcase for Meadows’ original music, uniting a mixture of global sounds, rooted in jazz and drawing influence from electronica, hip-hop, and afrobeat. Having performed across Europe with Matthew Herbert, worked as a guest conductor and arranger for the Grammy-award-winning Metropole Orkest, and been invited to collaborate on projects in Belgium, Netherlands, Ireland, and the UK, Meadows is taking his original music on the road for the first-time post-pandemic and would love the opportunity to play for you! The regular line-up showcases four musicians from across the UK, who met through London’s creative Southeast London jazz scene: Phil Meadows on sax and electronics, Michael De Souza on guitar, Joe Downard on electric bass and Jay Davis on drums. The music combines soaring melodies, atmospheric soundscapes, and head-nodding grooves; inspired by the sounds of Bill Frisell, Donny McCaslin, GoGo Penguin and Bill Laurance.

Just show your ticket for that evening’s performance (the ticket QR code on your phone, or a printout). A table must be booked here or tel: 01202 741463 and food orders placed at least 60 minutes prior to the start time of the gig (eg by 7pm for a 8pm start).
(2) For young people: (i) U18s – FREE entry when accompanied by an adult; (ii) Age 18 to 25 – entry £10 (with NUS / TOTEM card). Simply select the relevant ticket option when booking. The offers are available for over 90% of our gigs, but subject to seat availability, so for some gigs, it’s best to book early to avoid disappointment.
Parking is free at The Grasshopper but you must register your vehicle at the bar.
